Rivers Online Sportsbook PA Promo Code & Review 2019
Located a stone’s throw from Heinz Field, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh was the third casino to launch an online sportsbook in the Keystone State, and the first to do so in western Pennsylvania, going live with BetRivers in June 2019.
Rivers is operated by the same company as SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia, Rush Street Gaming. So it comes as little surprise that the duo use the same homegrown betting software, developed by Rush Street Interactive with support by Kambi.
Due to the fact that they’re virtual clones of one another, Rivers online sportsbook has the same strengths and weaknesses to its sister out east. There are tons of ways to place a wager, mobile support, an easy-to-clear welcome bonus, and the best rewards program in town. Yet, the lines aren’t always stellar, and right now, it’s a little light in the promotional department.
Below we break down the BetRivers online sportsbook app, and provide exclusive promo codes and links for the best welcome package deal available.

Breaking down the bonus
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a sportsbook bonus deal as good as this one. While the deposit match maximum may be lower than what other sites offer, the bonus comes with extremely player-friendly terms that are virtually unheard of.
When a company offers a deposit bonus, it usually requires players to wager a certain amount before the funds become available to cash out. This can range anywhere from 5x to 15x or more the amount of the bonus.
What makes the Rivers bonus so tantalizing is the fact that it only requires players to wager the bonus amount just one time. That means if you deposited $200, for example, you’d receive $200 in bonus cash, in addition to your original deposit. To fully unlock your bonus money, all you’d need to do is make $200 in real money wagers at the sportsbook.
There are a few conditions, however. Namely, the bonus has to be cleared within 30 days or it will expire. Secondly, only pre-match and live wagers with odds -200 or shorter (for instance, a bet on a -220 favorite would be ineligible) could toward the 1x wagering requirement.
This brings up one of the few differences between Rivers and SugarHouse. Unlike Rivers, SugarHouse has an online casino attached to it sports betting site, and gives players the option of clearing their bonus playing casino games as well as via the sportsbook.
Why bet at Rivers online sportsbook PA
- Fun, lucrative loyalty program: Rivers’ loyalty program, iRush Rewards, has already been battle-tested in New Jersey, and is beloved by players. Instead of offering a barely noticeable amount of cashback, which most casinos offer, Rivers provides players with a bevy of substantial rewards, motivating them to traverse the loyalty programs 11 ranks.
- Easy, breezy bonus: The Rivers Sportsbook welcome package is one of the best on the market. All players need to do is bet the bonus amount one time, meaning that you could make a single bet and complete the play-through requirement in one fell swoop. This is much harder on other sites, which can force you to bet the bonus amount many times over.
- Huge betting selection: Rivers’ partnership with the Kambi sports betting tech provider allows the site to offer nearly a dozen sports and spread odds on countless games and events. The Kambi innovation, Teaser+, enables Rivers to offer some of the best teaser pricing in the market.
Special promos and offers
Rivers online sportsbook is just getting started, so it does not yet have a full promotional schedule fleshed out. However, in the past, its partner NJ site has offered promos such as Nightly Odds Boosts, refunds on losing wagers, leaderboard races, and no-juice bets on certain events, like the NBA playoffs. These same types of offers will likely turn up at Rivers PA as well.
We’ll also probably see offers like reload bonuses, which are similar to the deposit bonus offered for new players, which will have a similarly low play-through requirement. Those who hit loyalty rank 7, will also be treated to a monthly VIP Promotional Calendar, stocked with plenty of lucrative goodies.
BetRivers Sportsbook loyalty program: iRush Rewards
BetRivers loyalty scheme iRush Rewards is considered to be the best in the U.S. market, and is a major reason why players keep coming back to Rush Street-operated online sportsbooks and casinos.
Before iRush Rewards was implemented U.S. online gaming sites didn’t put much thought into their VIP programs. Programs normally consisted of players earning points by betting on real money games, then converting these points into cash or bonus money.
Rush Street has pushed this model to new boundaries, creating something fresh and exciting that offers players true value.
Like in other programs, players earn points when they bet real money at the Rivers Sportsbook. Specifically, they learn both Loyalty Level Points (LLPs) and Bonus Store Points (BSPs).
LLPs are earned at a varying rate, depending on the amount of combinations in your sports bet. At the low end, when betting a single event, players earn 1 point per $10 wagered. At the high end, players betting 10-12 leg parlays earn 1 point per $1 wagered.
As you earn LLPs, you advance through a series of 10 tiers in the iRush program (there is also an eleventh, invite only tier). With each new tier, you’ll receive increasingly attractive perks, like a dedicated VIP manager, exclusive promos, VIP lounge access at Rivers Casino, luxury VIP gifts, and more. Perhaps the most enticing award comes at level 7, when bettors receive access to an exclusive VIP Promotional Calendar, which houses an entire stock of promos. The calendar alone is worth hundreds of dollars in value, each month.
With your bonus store points, you can access the Rivers Bonus Store, and redeem points for a variety of prizes, like Prize Wheel spins and bonus cash.
Fortunately, bonus money earned through the iRush program is only subject to a 1X wager requirement. You can always track your bonus money via the site’s Bonus Bank, which gives you the option of banking the money for later if you don’t have time to play now.
Software platforms — Now available on iOS
At Rivers online sportsbook, you can set your bets and access your account features on a number of Internet-connected devices.
To experience the site in all of its glory, all you need to do is navigate to the BetRivers webpage using your favorite browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc.). From there, you can place your bets right on the page, without the need to download any dedicated software.
You can also play on-the-go using smartphones and mobile devices that run the Android platform. To get the app, you’ll need to download it directly from the BetRivers site, as Android does not display gambling apps in its app store.
Initially, iOS users were out of luck, but now, BetRivers offered a means by which iPhone and iPad users can bet directly from their mobile browser. All they’ll have to do to get started is download a program called GeoGuard from the App Store. This geolocation app acts a sort of golden ticket to unlocking iOS play. More details here.
As far as the interface, BetRivers uses a fairly traditional filtering system, where markets are featured in a sidebar on the right (drop-down on mobile), and frontline bets (spreads, totals, etc.) for each game within that market are displayed in the main panel. Games are conveniently ordered by time, with in-play games displayed first, followed by upcoming events.
Click inside each game, and a whole slew of betting options pop up, filtered out by category. Given the sheer number of bets offered on the site, a deep filter is a near necessity, and BetRivers meets the challenge. On occasion, we felt that the site was over-compartmentalized, but this is a minor gripe.
Another minor complaint is that the interface suffers from being cramped on mobile devices, particularly smartphone. Those big bold letters and bright aesthetics simply lend themselves better to a large display.
Banking at BetRivers Sportsbook
Getting your money on and off BetRivers should be a relatively painless process, especially now that mainstream payment processors are legally allowed to provide banking services for online gambling apps.
Your deposit options are exactly the same as those offered at sister-site SugarHouse.
- Visa/MasterCard credit and debit cards: You may deposit with your credit or debit card, although some banks have been known to reject these types of transactions.
- BetRivers prepaid card (Play+_: Add money to your prepaid card via a checking account or debit card, then transfer your money into your BetRivers account. Solid alternative when credit card transactions fail.
- Online banking: Have your deposit processed instantly using an online banking transfer handled through banking portals.
- Pay With Cash: Deposit money at the nearest 7-Eleven, CVS, or Family Dollar, then take the receipt and enter the confirmation number in your BetRivers account to receive your cash.
- Cash at the Rivers cage: Deposit and withdraw money in-person at one of the cashier’s cages at the physical Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh.
- Wire transfer: Best for big deposits up to $50,000
Make withdrawals via:
- BetRivers Prepaid Card
- Cash at the cage
- Check by mail
Rivers online sportsbook offers virtually identical lines to its sister site, Play SugarHouse Sports. And that’s mostly a positive.
On the plus side, it doesn’t appear that the hefty 36% tax rate on sports betting revenue in Pennsylvania is having too much of an impact on the lines, as they parallel those on Play SugarHouse in the less-heavily taxed New Jersey market.
Furthermore, BetRivers offers the same relative odds but lower vig than Parx Casino Sportsbook (which also uses Kambi as its supplier) pretty much across the board, suggesting that there is rarely a reason to preference Parx over BetRivers, except in the case when a promotion is running on the former.
Pre-game MLB lines tend to be less juicier on BetRivers compared to FanDuel Sportsbook, although there is often more value to be had betting on underdogs on FanDuel. NFL point spreads and totals are the standard -110, but the moneyline vig is significantly lower on FanDuel (although value can be found on BetRivers).
Observed in-play lines were a mixed bag, sometimes dipping over the 25-cents on even money MLB bets. Same deal with futures and props. For instance, FanDuel boasts 20 cent lines on NBA team win totals, whereas BetRivers mostly offers 20-cent lines, but occasionally tips over to 21 – 25 cent lines.
Two- and three-leg parlays pay out slightly better than the industry average — 2.65:1 on two-legs, and 5.97:1 on three-legs (-110 wagers) — and teasers lines are definitely a highlight, thanks to the Kambi innovation Teaser+.
Rivers PA betting markets
Through its software’s deep integration with the Kambi sports betting platform, Rivers offers up a sizable selection of markets on which players can bet.
Again, Rivers has gone the route of its sister casino here and offers virtually the same menu of options as SugarHouse.
The complete list can be viewed in the lower part of the left sidebar on the website. Clicking on a specific sport will expand its menu to reveal key leagues, while ticking the corresponding box will populate the main website window with current events. Here are some of the key markets (this list is not exhaustive):
- Basketball: NBA, NCAAB, WNBA
- Tennis: Grand Slam events
- Soccer: A huge selection too large to list
- Baseball: MLB
- Football: Arena Football, CFL, NCAAF, NFL
- Golf: European Tour, PGA Tour, The Masters, The Open, U.S. Open, U.S. PGA Championship
- Hockey: NHL, SHL, LIIGA
- Motorsports: Formula1, NASCAR
A full range of betting types are available on Rivers online sportsbook, enough to keep any class of gambler interested. Enjoy shooting for the stars and a big payday? Try your luck with parlays. Think that the final score will stay under a certain number? Make a Totals bet. The options run deep.
Overall, we are satisfied with the game and bet selection on BetRivers, especially its in-play betting options, which can be exhaustive for major markets. And with upwards of 100 different props on a run-of-the-mill MLB baseball game, it’s difficult to ask for much more.
Here are some of the bet types available:
- Money line
- In-play bets
- Player props
In addition, you’ll find a few exotic bets at Rivers, including an early redemption option that lets you cash out before the final outcome has been determined.
You can also make something called Jackpot Parlay bets, which are similar to Quick Pick lottery tickets available at local convenience stores. When you place a Jackpot Parlay bet, a betting slip will be automatically generated and include a combination of up to eight random events. Simply choose your bet amount and number of combinations, and the bets will be pre-filled for you.
While the chances of hitting all of your picks are quite low, if you do manage to get lucky, you’ll be in for a huge payday.
Rivers PA land-based sportsbook
Rivers opened up its temporary sportsbook on December 15, 2018 in tandem with SugarHouse. Both properties trailed Hollywood Casino, which had launched the state’s first book a month prior.
The temporary facility is situated on the south gaming floor near the high limit area, and occupies the space of an unsed cashier’s cage. The book spans 3,000 square feet, boasts a luxury sports lounge design, and has available seating for nearly 100 people.
Patrons can enjoy games on a large 14′ x 7′ LED video wall or watch their favorite events on a bank of 15 flat screen TVs. To place their bets, players have access to several cashier windows and self-service wagering kiosks.
Rivers’ permanent sportsbook will be bigger and better and is slated to open in the fall of 2019. According to plans unveiled during a PGCB meeting, the book will be located in the 5,500 square-foot space that previously housed the Levels Lounge. It will include seating for 195 patrons, and feature 18 betting kiosks and six betting windows.

After Play SugarHouse launched its online casino in New Jersey in 2016, then followed up by adding a virtual sportsbook in 2018, it became abundantly clear that it sister site, Rivers, would follow suit.
At first, Rivers was gung ho on the online gambling industry as well, shelling out $10 million for a license to offer online slots, poker, and table games.
It later turned its attention to sports betting, snapping up an equally expensive license for the vertical in September 2018.
However, Rivers eventually had a change of heart in regard to online casino, likely after determining it could save money by simply promoting the iGaming offering over at SugarHouse PA. It subsequently relinquished its casino licenses back into the pool.
It held on to its sports betting permit, though, which is no surprise considering that its home city of Pittsburgh plays host to teams in three major sports leagues.
Both Rivers and SugarHouse received their interim sports wagering licenses during a PGCB meeting a month after submitting their applications, and had their brick-and-mortar betting facilities open two months after that.
SugarHouse beat out Rivers in opening its online sportsbook, launching in late May, with Rivers coming online in June. Since, it has been announced that SugarHouse Casino will be re-branded as Rivers Casino Philadelphia, bringing increased unity to the brand.
